Schreiber & Sons, Philadelphia

1st and only edition, 1874.  One of the rarest of American racing books.  Oblong quarto, with all fifty albumen photographs of the outstanding American horses of the mid-19th century, each 5-3/8 inches by 8 inches, mounted on each side of 25 thick leaves, which are in turn mounted to stubs and measure 9-5/8 by 12-3/8 inches. Publisher’s quarter brown morocco over brown cloth, spine with gilt bands and lettering, ornate gilt lettering on front board, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, remains of a clasp. Lacks the one leaf preface, but all original tissue guards are present. Overall, an excellent copy of one of the rarest of all American racing books.
